PROTEIN - Building Blocks of Life

Protein is a basic macronutrient, protein is essential in our everyday life. The building block of every organism, protein is found in every cell, muscle and tissue in our body. Besides that, Protein is also present in many of the food that we eat.
Protein is made of amino acids. When the protein we eat is disgested, it is broken down into individual amino acids. These amino acids are then reformed into new protein for the body's use.
The benefits of protein are wide and varied. To start with:
o Protein is indispensable for the growth and maintenance of every kind of cell in our body.
o Body development, replenishment of lost blood, healing of wounds and scars, replacement of dead cells, and hair and nail growth need protein.
o Protein in form of enzymes, hormones and antibodies promotes healthy metabolic and physiological processes, and boosts our nervous and immunity systems.
o In situations when fat and carbohydrate food sources are not providing adequate calories, protein is used to generate the calories we need.
o Protein also makes antibodies and haemoglobin.
